The Miss North Carolina program is the official state preliminary to the Miss America competition, empowering young women ages 18–26 to develop their leadership, communication, and professional skills. Established in 1937, it is one of the state’s most respected scholarship and personal development programs for women.
Each year, candidates from across North Carolina compete in areas such as interview, talent, evening wear, health & fitness, and their personal Social Impact Initiative—a cause they champion throughout their year of service. The winner becomes a role model and spokesperson, representing the state with grace, intelligence, and purpose, and goes on to compete for the title of Miss America.

Miss North Carolina offers thousands of dollars in scholarships to help young women pursue higher education—regardless of whether they win the state title.
